what are valves and name two important valves state their function

Solution:

A valve is a membranous structure present in a hollow organ. It folds or closes to prevent the return flow of the body fluid passing through it. The valves present in between the auricles and ventricles are meant to prevent the backflow of blood from the ventricles to auricles. These also form the passage for blood to pass from the auricle to ventricles.

Different valves present in heart are- Tricuspid valve present between right auricle and right ventricle, Bicuspid valve present between left auricle and left ventricle, etc.

  • Bicuspid valve guards the opening between the left atrium and the left ventricle. It prevents the backward flow of blood from the left ventricle to the left atrium.
  • Tricuspid valve guards the opening between the right atrium and the right ventricle. It prevents the backward flow of blood from the right ventricle to the right atrium.
