Gandhi's doctrine of leadership is based on the tenets of non-violence and self-reliance. The lessons that modern leaders of India can learn is to work tirelessly and selflessly for the cause to which they have committed themselves without expectation of material gains. It is important to extricate the self from the cause because what is important when one becomes a leader is to work for the people. Sadly, very few Indian leaders, if at all any, think along those lines. Self-reliance and non-violence are the basic principles that a leader would need to adopt to follow in the footsteps of Gandhi. The first would be to ensure that one stands up for their own rights and the latter would be to see that they do so in a non-violent manner, possible through dialogue. These would inculcate the importance of solidarity and work towards creating a peaceful society.
