What are the different types of roots found in cycas ?

Dear student,

There are two types of root found in Cycas
1) Normal tap root - It is a non-green part, without root hairs mainly responsible for the absorption of water and minerals and also for the anchorage of the tree. These roots are positively geotropic.
2) Coralloid roots - These are similar to the normal tap root but these are the lateral branches of the tap root, also lacking root cap and root hairs. These roots are negatively geotropic, dichotomously branched. The middle cortex zone is inhabited by the blue-green algae where they live in symbiotic association with the plant. Blue-green algae like Nostoc help in nitrogen fixation there.

Regards.
