What are tetravalent elements???

“Tetra” means four and “valent” means valency.
So, an element is said to be tetravalent if it has a valency of four. These types of elements have four electrons in their valence shell, need four more to complete their octet and are capable of forming maximum four bonds. One such element is carbon. It can form four covalent bonds owing to its tetravalent nature. Another example is silicon, which also has four electrons in its valence shell.

those elements which have four valency are called tetra valent elements for ex. carbon

A tetravalent element is an elemental atom with four electrons available to form bonds with other atoms. Good examples are carbon and silicon; their tetravalance allows them to form highly complex molecules, hence the complexity of life and computers.

Those elements which can gain or lose to complete their octet(or outermost shell) are called tetravelent elements.

They have valency of four.

Good example is Carbon wich forms covalent bonds.
