WHAT ARE GOOD AND BAD CONDUCTORS OF HEAT? EXPLAIN WITH EXAMPLES.

The subtances that conduct heat easily through them are called good conductors of heat. for EX-copper, iron, metal etc. and the substances which doesn't allow heat to pass through them are called bad conducters of heat. EX-wood, rubber, plastic etc.

Materials which conduct heat readily are called good conductors of heat. Materials that do not conduct heat readily are called bad condutors of heat or insulators of heat.

All metals are good condutors whereas substances like wool , stone, glass, wood, porcelain, water and air are bad conductors of heat. All liquids [except mercury] and gasses are bad conductors of heat.

The materials which allow the heat and electric current to pass through them are called conductors.

example: all metals like aluminium, copper etc.

And the bad conductors and the insulators are the same only but the bad conductrs or insulators do not allow the heat and te electric current to pass through them.

example: all non- metals like wood, plastic etc.

GOOD CONDUCTERS - The substance which allow heat energy to flow through then easily are called good conducters. eg : iron, copper, mercury used in thermometer is also a good conucter of heat

BAD CONDUCTERS - The substance which do not allow the the heat energy to flow through them easily are called bad conducters or insulators. eg : glass, mica, ebonite , cotten ,wool , wood plastic are all bad conducter of heat. in addition all liquids [ except mercury which is a liquid metal] ang gases are bad conducter of heat or insulator

good conducters is conductor ex- copper, steel, iron etc

bad conducter is insulator ex- paper, wood, cloth etc

good conductors of heat means the one which allow heat energy to pass more easily, metals are the good conductors of heat ,it is because that metals conduct heat not only by atomic vibration [by vibration of molecules] but also by drift of free electrons. As metal conduct heat by two ways they are called good conductors of heat.

on the other hand non-metals conduct  heat only by atomic vibration and are bad conductors.

Badconductorshave a very wide application. Beginning with our own person comfort, we prevent loss of heat from ourselves by a covering of poorly conducting material. Textiles are badconductorsof heat, since they are full of tiny pockets of air enclosed by the fibers of the material. Air, in common with all gases, is a very badconductorof heat. It is usual to say that wool is warmer than cotton. Technically, of course, we imply that it has a lower thermal conductivity than cotton. Double glazing in windows reduces heat loss from a building owing to the poorly conducting layer of air between the two sheets of glass.

A stone floor feels cold to the bare feet, but a carpet on the same floor feels warm. This difference arises from the fact that stone is a betterconductorof heat than a carpet.

Tobeginwith both the stone floor and the carpet are at the same temperature. This may be verified by placing a thermometer in contact with each in turn. Since the feet are warmer than either, heat tends to flow from the feet. Stone, being the betterconductor, conveys heat away from the feet more rapidly than the carpet. Consequently, the feet feel cold on the stone but warm on the carpet.

Precisely the same effect is experienced when handling a garden fork in winter. The iron part of the fork feels cold, but the wooden handle warm.

Examples of Bad Conductors?AnswerA bad conductor of heat means that such a substance does not conduct or transfer or absorb heat. Examples of bad conductors are wood, plastic, ceramics, paper, rubber. Most ceramics and plastics are bad conductors of electricity.Good Conductors of Heat?AnswerA good conductor of heat is a material that transfers heat energy from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature faster. Some material that make good conductors of heat include copper, gold and aluminium.
