They were the descendants of two great ancestry of rulers.From their maternal side Mughals were the ancestors of Genghis Khan and from their paternal side they were the ancestors of Timur who was the ruler of Iran.
 
Mughals were proud of their Timurid dynasty because-
  • Timur captured Delhi in 1398,when he come to know of the chaos due to rebellions and weakening power of the central authority.
  • Timur beautified his capital Samarkand with beautiful buildings ,palaces and mosques.

The Mughal Empire started when Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodhi.They were proud of their Timurid ansectory because their great ansector had captured Delhi in 1398.
