a. Cholas imposed 400  terms different types of taxes  because it helped in establishing and consolidating their empire.
b.  Revenue and taxes were needed to build fortifications, for the construction of temples and to fight wars.

c. In the present system, there are taxes imposed by the government to provide public services.
d. However, present form does not have tax called vetti, whereby tax is taken in the form of forced labour
e. In fact present form there are a number of direct and indirect taxes imposed like sales tax, entertainment tax, income tax.
f. Further, as far as land revenue is concerned, there is tax on the sale of agricultural land but no tax on agricultural income if that is the only source of income and is under the prescribed limit
