sparrows were very fond of the grandmother.
quote instances to support the statement.

Solution:-

Grandmother loved animals. She fed the sparrows regularly. So, they had developed great affinity towards her. They would usually surround her. She enjoyed their company. She never shooed them away. When she died, the sparrows gathered around her dead body. They were completely silent. The chirrupy sound that they made usually was nowhere to be heard. They also paid no heed to the bread crumbs that were provided to them by the narrator's mother. All these instances prove that they were fond of grandmother.

Here is an extract from the text to show that sparrows loved grandmother:-

"All over the verandah and in her room right up to where she lay dead and stiff wrapped in the red shroud, thousands of sparrows sat scattered on the floor. There was no chirruping.'"
