 When we refer to key features we refer to the most important features of the Indian constitution which constitutes the crux or backbone of our constitution.

Some of the key features of the Indian Constitution are federalism, separation of powers,fundamental rights and parliamentary form of government are important because:

a. These features reflect the common agreement among the constitution makers, who wanted to give a  structure to the country.
b. These features reflect the aims and aspirations of our people, who fought against the colonial regime.
c. These features were adopted because India became independent amidst growing turmoil, partition , integration of princely states, underdevelopment, all these problems had to be addressed.
d. These principles give  extensive set of rights, voice to the people who were suppressed for years.
e. These features also empower people and also give recognition to the marginalised groups.
f. They  form the basic premise of our constitution and prevent tyranny of the majority.
g. They also give recognition to religious minorities.
h. Most importantly, they upheld the principles of democracy, representation and participation.
