Short note on art and realism

Realism is art refers to the practice of depicting the subject matter realistically, without resorting to any artistic conventions, exaggerations or supernatural elements. The movement towards realism in art began in France in the 1850s. At that time, the predominant artistic style was Romanticism, which relied on exaggerated emotional depictions of subject matter. The realist movement sought to depict real and contemporary with truth and accuracy, and did not avoid unpleasant subject matter. The realist movement in art reflected the changes in society that was happening due to the Industrial Revolution.
