How can you distinguish between CH₃CH₂ NH₂ and
(CH₃CH₂)₂NH by Hinsberg test?

• Benzenesulphonyl chloride (C₆H₅SO₂Cl) (known as Hinsbergs reagent) reacts with 1° and 2° amines to form sulphonamides.With primary (1°) amine it forms a product which is soluble in alkali

• With secondary (2°) amine it forms a product which is not soluble in alkali.

This reaction is used for the distinction of 1°, 2° and 3° amines.
