Q.) What kind of foreign policy did india Adopt after independence? What are the Features of this Policy?

The changes that were introduced in India after achieving Independence are:

1. The policy makers followed the policy of Import Substitution. The policy of import substitution implied reducing imports by way of tariffs and quotas.

2. Another policy that was followed after independence included Export Promotion Policy. Under this policy, emphasis was laid to increase the exports of India.

3. Heavy stress was laid on making India self reliant by way of encouraging domestic production of all the major commodities.

4. At the same time, there was liberalisation in imports of the commodities necessary for the growth of the economy.

5. Along with this, the policy of protection of domestic industries from competition with foreign counterparts was also pursued.
Some of it's features through NAM are :
a. It is an independent foreign policy and   is anti-military alliances.
b.It does not favour the inception of military basis on Indian soil or in any other non-aligned country.
c.It caters to the concept of World Peace.
d.It stands for friendly relations with all nations.
e.Non alignment does not mean being neutral or isolation from World Affairs. It means playing an active role in mediating between the power blocs.
