1. She refused to look at the paper because it was filled with the stories of Mrs. Packletide's heroic adventure of hunting down a tiger.
2. The news in the paper did not please her. She was jealous of Mrs. Packletide's pictures in the paper, travelling by air to hunt down a ferocious animal.
3. The news affected her this way because a few days back it was her making the headlines for doing the same and now all her glory & fame had been passed on to Mrs. Packletide.
