Q. The below graph represents temperature versus heat for water at 1 atm. pressure.
(a). Match the following using the above graph.
Graph | Process | State |
i) BC | a) Melting | p) Water |
ii)DE | b) Sublimation | q) Ice |
c) Regelation | r) Partially Solid | |
d) Vapourisation | s) Partially liquid and vapour |
(b) The slopes of AB and CD are different. Why?
Dear Student ,
Regelation and sublimation can not be described by the graph as the regelation is melting under pressure and freezing when the pressure is withdrawn .
Sublimation is turning to the vapour from the state of solid directly without coming to the state of liquid .
(ii) The slopes AB and CD are different because the at the AB part water is at ice state that is in the solid state and at Cd part water is in liquid state .
Thus this two graphs are different .

BC | Melting | Partially solid |
DE | Vaporisation | Partially liquid and vapour |
Regelation | ||
