7.  Sara, a class IX student was asked to submit a project report on mosquito transmitted disease in school. She visited a nearby hospital where her aunt was staffed as a nurse. Her aunt took her to a patient suffering from malaria; Sara talked to the patient and asked him about symptoms. 

(i)  Name the causative organism and the vector of the disease.
(ii) Name the two symptoms which may have been told by the patient.
(iii)  Identify an important value shown by Sara.

i. The causative organism for malaria is Plasmodium (a protozoan). Female Anopheles mosquito act as the vector for this disease.

The general attack of malaria usually continues 6-10 hours. There are three stages and these symptoms return approximately every 2 days.
  1. The cold stage (shivering, feeling cold for 1-2 hours)
  2. The hot stage (vomiting, headache and fever up to 107°F for 3-4 hours)
  3. The sweating stage or wet stage (sweating for 2-4 hours and sleepiness)
