He was responsible for expanding the Maratha empire and taking the empire to the peak of its power. His first major victory was against the Nizam who was forced to recognize Maratha authority over the Deccan. He then expanded the Maratha empire to Malwa, Bundelkhand and Gujarat. Tipu Sultan, also known as the Tipu Sahib, was a ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore. He was the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore. Tipu Sultan introduced a number of administrative innovations during his rule, including his coinage, a new Mauludi lunisolar calendar, and a new land revenue system which initiated the growth of the Mysore silk industry. He expanded the iron-cased Mysorean rockets and commissioned the military manual Fathul Mujahidin, and is considered a pioneer in the use of rocket artillery. He deployed the rockets against advances of British forces and their allies during the Anglo-Mysore Wars, including the Battle of Pollilur and Siege of Seringapatam. He also embarked on an ambitious economic development program that established Mysore as a major economic power, with some of the world's highest real wages and living standards in the late 18th century.

i will tell abt Tipu sultan...
during the latter half of the 18 century, the kingdom of Mysore and the EEIC fought a series of wars, called the Anglo-mysore wars.
Tipu sultan is Hyder ali's son.In the first Anglo war, Hyder ali defeated the britishers. In the second Anglo war,Tipu sultan fought with great courage and outshined his rivals that included the combined forces of the British, Marathas, Nazam. in 1785, Tipu stopped the export of sandalwood, pepper, cardamom from to local rulers to trade with the company. he also modernized his army with french help. Due to these reasons, the EEIC wanted to crush Tipu as he hampered the economic and political interests of the company.

at last, Tipu was defeated the fourth Anglo-mysore war. The British won the battle of Seringapatnam in 1799. Tipu,  popularly known as "the tiger of Mysore",  lost his life in this battle. after the conquest by the EEIC,  Mysore was restored to the royal house of the Wodeyars who had been the traditional rulers of the state.
