On the occasion of Republic Day, a school organised a competition for the students. Each child was given a square sheet of side 60 cm. They had to make a border of width 2 cm using the coloured tape and the remaining portion had to be divided into four equal portions to show different religions. Find the length of the coloured tape needed for the border. What will be the side of the square into which the sheet has been divided?

Length of  each side of the SQUARE sheet = 60 cm 
Area of the square sheet = s x s = area so , 60 x 60 cm = 3600 sq cm 
length of square border = 2 cm 
perimeter of square border = 2 x (  2 +2 cm = 8 cm) 
we need 8 cm long coloured tape.
if we have to divide the sheet into 4 equal parts and we want to know the side of the divided squares then we will divide them which is = 60 cm / 4 = 15 cm 
so the side of the square is 15 cm
