Demerits of a dictatorship:

a. Dictatorship is a form of  absolute regime and can be regarded as similar since dictatorships exercise absolute control with no limits or restriction to its authority. Such a regime does not guarantee any rights and liberties to its people,

b. In dictatorships there is complete concentration of power by the ruler or by a military/party. A dictatorial regime exercises complete control over social, economic, political, religious, cultural affairs of the people, The dictator does not tolerate any opposition to his position and suppresses all opponents and dissent.

c. No political parties, groups or associations are allowed to function, A dictatorial regime establishes absolute control over media.

Merits of a dictatorship:

a. A dictatorship brings about complete uniformity in policies and no conflicting interests.It ensures quick decision making .
b. . It brings about political stability and ensures continuity in the governance. A dictatorial regime is not impacted by competitive electoral politics.
c. A dictatorial regime also brings about economic development as decisions are taken quickly and in the best interest of the country. It is  characterised by strict discipline and law and order.


Limitations of democracy:

a. Though democracy is the most popular form of government for it allows for people's participation and grants civil and political rights to them, there are flaws associated with it.
b.Democarcy is all about numbers, it gives more emphasis to the quantity than quality.
c. Then,  Democratic form of government  have has been questioned on various fronts like it leads to instability, frequent change in the government brings about discontinuity in the policy making process.
d. it is about competition and power, political leaders in order to come to power, bring about polarisation of a society, may create groups and factions in a society creating disunity. They also   resort to muscle and money power or may exploit social divisions like caste, religion so as to come to power. 
e. E ven democracies track record with that of economic development has been questioned, more so because of delays, red tapism and political instability.
f. It delays the decision making process as there are a large number of people involved in decision making process and deliberation., who have to follow cumbersome procedures.
g. Democracy has often been regard as tyranny of the majority which overlooks the interest of the minorities.
h. Democracy also encourages nepotism, favouritism at the cost of common people.
i. Most of the people like in India are illiterate who are generally swayed away by political tactics of parties and are unable to make informed choice.
