Magnetic field is scalar or vector quantity ? Give reasons for your answer.

magnetic field is a scalar quantity. The reason is : magnetic field moves in a certain direction as you have read in your previous classes and so, its a scalar quantity because it has a particular direction along with its speed

  • -1

It is vector quantity.

  • 10

magnetic field is a vector quantity as it is specified by both magnitiude and direction.

remember any thing which is related to DIRECTION is always a vector quantity.

eg.velocity

  • magnetic field is a vector quantity as it has magnitude, direction and also obeys the vector laws.
  • 5

scalar field has only magnitude while vector field has both magnitude and direction.Scalar field : dot product. distance, time,Work,EnergyVector field: Cross product. Electric and magnetic field, Force, displacement

Magnet with a single pole can not exist.Lines of forces begin from a pole to another opposite pole.A marine compass always be on north south direction under the influence of the earth,This means that some forces act on the compass always in a certain direction. So how can  the magnetic force be a scalar.

The magnetic field at any point in space is a vector quantity. This means there is a direction associated with the field as well as a field strength. Consider the arrow below: The direction of the arrow can be thought of as the direction of the magnetic field

Magnetic field is a vector quantity because it has magnitude as well as direction also

vector quantity .
  • 0
Magnetic field is a vector quantity as it has both direction and magnitude.the magnitude depends on the field lines and direction is always from North pole of the magnet to the south.
  • -1
Magnetic field is a vector quantity.

It is because magnetic field is specified by both magnitude and direction. Directions are specified by right hand thumb rule.
  • 1
Magnetic field is a vector quantity.
Because,
1) it has direction.
2)it has magnitude
3) the direction of magnetic field is drawn as tangent to the circle.
