List two differences in tabular form between dominant trait and recessive traits. What percentage/proportion of the plants in the F2 generation/progeny were round, in Mendel’s cross between round and wrinkled pea plants?

Solution:

Dominant trait Recessive trait
Dominant traits are those traits which are expressed even in the presence of one copy of an allele for a particular trait in the gene. Recessive traits are those that are expressed only when two copies of an allele are present in the gene.
Traits that are observed are called dominant  Traits that are masked by the dominant gene or suppressed are called recessive.
Dominant traits of pea plant:-Tall and round seeds. Recessive traits of pea plant:- Dwarf and wrinkled seeds.

Mendel conducted a dihybrid cross to study that traits are inherited independently. He considered two traits at a time: these were:- seed colour & seed shape in which Yellow colour (YY) and round shape (RR) is dominant over green colour (yy) and wrinkled shape (rr).

Round (yellow or green)- 12/16*100 = 75%
