As you can see in our website that the first usage of comma is shown to separate 3 or more items in a series. Instance for the same has been given as Sachin Tendulkar, V. V. S. Laxman, Virendra Sehwag and Rahul Dravid. 

Next, the usage of comma is shown to separate adjectives such as smart, witty, etc.
