In a question in the chapter test of Science: Chemical Reactions And Equations, 2 options are same: C And D. Please Explain why I lost one mark after Clicking C.

Use the following information to answer the next question.

The givenequation represents the reaction of sodium metal with water.

Sodium + Water → Sodium hydroxide +Hydrogen

Which of the following chemical equations represents a complete balanced chemical equation for the given word equation?

  • A)

  • B)

  • C)

  • D)

Please note that option (c) and (d) are totally different. In (c) we have 2 molecules of hydrogen whereas in (d) we have 1 molecule of hydrogen.
The correct answer would be (d) as it is a balanced chemical reaction where equal number of molecules are present on the either side.
Whereas in (c) number of hydrogen molecules is not balanced.

  • This is because there is 2 sodium,4hydrogen(2H2),and 2 oxygen in the reactant side.
  • Usually, in a balanced equation there should be equal amount of reactant and the product sides.
  • in the product side, there should be 2 sodium, 2 oxygen, and 4 hydrogen.
  • Therefore, option,d) is the correct answer.
  • Hope this will help you.
  • I also hope that you will understand what I have said earlier.
  • Please give me thumbs up.
  • Experts please certify my answer because it was the correct answer, in what I have learnt.
