If u were Saint Peter, what would be your reaction to the woman.(different from what is done by saint peter in the text)?

In "A Legend of the Northland", by Phoebe Cary St. Peter changes the woman into a woodpecker. However, in his place one could even try showing compassion. He could perform a miracle (being a Saint) and convert all her tiny cakes into large ones. He could teach her pity by sharing those cakes with her. Punishment may not be the only method of teaching a lesson. After all she lived in a cold country where food would naturally be scarce and the woman does not come across as a hardened criminal. Her only failing is that she is selfish. Sometimes compassion goes a long way in teaching a person a lesson, instead of punishment. Moreover, it also keeps to the notion of Christian charity and forgiveness.
