If there are 150 PMC in a tabacco plant/flower.
How many mitosis ,meiosis and pollen grains will be produced

Solution:

We know that each Microspore mother cell that is, PMC undergoes one meiosis division to produce one tetrad.
Now, one tetrad produces four pollen grains.

Each of the pollen grains undergoes mitosis two times as follows:
  •  Once when the vegetative and generative nuclei are formed.
  •  Secondly, when the two male gametes are formed from the generative nucleus.
This implies that one meiotic division gives rise to four pollen grains.

There are 150 PMC in the tobacco flower. So, there will be 150 meiotic divisions. 150 meiotic divisions would produce (150 × 4) = 600 pollen grains.
Also, number of mitotic divisons would be (2 × 600) = 1200 mitotic divisons.
