if each edge of a cube is doubled,

1.how many times will its surface area increase?

2.how many times will it volume increase?

 (i) Let initially the edge of the cube be l.

Initial surface area = 6l2

If each edge of the cube is doubled, then it becomes 2l.

New surface area = 6(2l)2 = 24l2 = 4 × 6l2

Clearly, the surface area will be increased by 4 times.

(ii) Initial volume of the cube = l3

When each edge of the cube is doubled, it becomes 2l.

New volume = (2l)3 = 8l= 8 × l3

Clearly, the volume of the cube will be increased by 8 times.

hi alked

1.consider the edge of the cuboid as l

surface area = 6l2

If the edge gets doubled then edge= 2l

so surface area = 6(2l)2 = 24l2 = 4 × 6l2

therefore, the surface area will increase 4 times

2.Volume of a cube = l3

if  each of edge is doubled, then the edge= 2l

so volume = (2l)3 = 8l3 = 8 × l3

therefore, the volume will  increase 8 times.

hope it helps

 hiya

1. let edge of the cube be x

then its surface area will be 6x2

if the edge is doubled , it will become 2x

so the surface area = 6(2x)2 =24x2

thus surface area will increase 4 times

2. Volume of a cube = x

if the edge is doubled then V= (2x)3= 8x3

so the volume will increase 8 times
