Identify atleast three instances from the poem how to tell wild animals where the poet has taken liberty with language

Poetic license is a device used by poets to maintain the meter or the structure of the poem. They can change the spelling of certain words or omit a word to maintain the structure of the poem. In the poem "How to Tell Wild Animals", Carolyn Wells uses this device in the following three lines:

  • As soon as it has lept on you
  • He will only lep and lep again
  • 'T is the chameleon you see

In the first instance it should have been "leapt" instead of "lept". In the second instance, the term "lep" should have been spelt at "leap". Finally, in he third instance the line should have begun with "It" instead of 'T.
