The poem expresses the significance of small things in changing one’s attitude. The poet appreciates the beauty of the snowflakes, which changed his mood and saved many precious moments from being wasted away. The crow shakes off the snow dust from the hemlock tree. The same way one can shake off the sadness from one’s heart.

In this poem the poet says that he was upset or depressed and decided to pass the whole day in sorrow and regret and was sitting under a hemlock .Suddenly a crow, sitting on the same tree shook off the dust of snow i.e. the fine particles of snow that remains on the surface of the tree after snowfall ,on the poet.The soft and cold touch of snow changed the poet mood from sad to happy.
