Dear student,

The answers to question 10.3 & 10.4 are as follows:
Answer 3:

The author's grandmother was very old and had looked the same for the last twenty years. The author comments that judging by her present visage, she could never have been pretty but she was always beautiful. She hobbled about the house in spotless white with one hand resting on her waist to balance her stoop an the other telling the beads of her rosary. Her silver locks were scattered untidily over her pale, puckered face and her lips constantly moved in inaudible prayer. She looked beautiful as the winter landscape in the mountains, an expanse of pure white serenity breathing peace and contentment. The author's grandmother was constantly telling the beads of her rosary and she had been doing so ever since the author could remember. Her lips always moved in an inaudible prayer. She would start her day with a morning prayer uttered in a monotonous sing-song voice and spend the time when the author was in school at the temple, reading the scriptures. Even when she got older and more infirm in her faculties, her lips continued to move in prayer and her mind became lost in it. Her fingers would not stop telling the beads of her rosary. Her piety was a way of life for her.

Answer 4:

The school system is often found to curb individual talent. This is because the pressure of following a set curriculum and prescribed syllabus means a lack of time for encouraging students to express their creativity and give full space to their imagination. There is no time to try things outside the syllabus, there is immense stress laid on scoring well and rote learning rather than acquiring knowledge. As Albert Einstein observes in the story that it is all about factual knowledge that does not really benefit us. He believed that education should be about advancement of learning and lead us to enquire and think further. The atmosphere in the school is mainly characterised by a pressure to conform rather than think independently. Albert thought that teachers were supposed to show the path of enlightenment to the student and not cram their heads with irrelevant factual information. The respect that a teacher deserves should stem from the display of his competency and ability to motivate students. Hence he refused to learn dates and facts for merely passing an examination.

Kindly post the remaining questions in separate thread and in tyoed format to make it easier for the experts to answer all the questions.

Albert saw no point in learning datesand facts because according tohim educationwas not learning facts but thinking and learning ideas. More than dates of battles he was interested in findingout the cause of violence and bloodshed.
