How to use hit and trial method

Hit and trial method is used to find out the required value by putting any value of given variable in the given equation.

For example, consider an equation

Here, we have to make p(x) = 0 by putting some value of x.

So, randomly we start with the value of x = 1.

Now, p(1) = 1³ + 13(1)² + 32 × 1 + 20

⇒ p(1) = 1 + 13 + 32 + 20 = 66 ≠ 0

Here, p(1) ≠ 0. SO, we try with another value of x = -1 as:

Now, p(-1) = (-1)³ + 13(-1)² + 32 × (-1) + 20

⇒ p(-1) = -1 + 13 - 32 + 20 = 33 - 33 = 0

Therefore, p(-1) = 0

Hence, -1 is that value of x which will make p(x) = 0.
