Step- 1   C2H6  +  PCl5 → C2H5Cl   +  PCl3  +  HCl  [ ethane to ethyl chloride]

 Step-2  C2H5Cl    +    CH3MgCl     →  CH3CH2CH3   +    MgCl2  [ethyl chloride to propane]
