How many PGAL are produced by glycolysis of 3 molecules of glucose ? How many ATP are released by respiration of these PGAL till formation of CO2 & H2O? Please explain the answer which is 6-PGAL-120 ATP.

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

One molecule of glucose breaks down into two molecules of PGAL. Therefore, three molecules of glucose would yield six molecules of PGAL.

The respiratory balance sheet of aerobic respiration of one molecule of glucose can be explained as under:

Step No. of ATP produced
Glycolysis 2NADH2= 2 x 3 = 6ATP
2ATP (Substrate level)
Total = 8ATP
Linking reaction
Pyruvate to Acetyl coenzyme A
2NADH2= 2 x 3=6 ATP
Kreb's cycle 6NADH 2= 6 x 3=18ATP
2FADH= 2 x 2=4ATP
2ATP (Substrate level)
Total= 24ATP
Total of all steps 8+6+24= 38ATP (net gain of ATPs during aerobic respiration of one molecule of glucose)

If one molecule of glucose yields 38 ATPs (under aerobic conditions), then three molecules of it would yield 114 ATPs.

1 Glucose yields 2 PGAl
3 Glucose would yield 6PGAl

Then 1 Glucose forms - 36 ATP
3 Glucose would Form - 108 ATP

I think this must be the Answer instead of 120 ATP's .
