How is the grandfather's portrait different from that of grandmother's ?

Dear student,

Khushwant Singh describes his grandmother as a short and fat lady. She had stooped with age. He says she was not pretty in the traditional sense but her serenity made her beautiful. She always used to chant silent prayers from beads of rosary. She wore spotless white clothes. They were very close to each other but the distance grew once he moved to city for further studies.
Khushwant Singh describes his grandfather from the latter’s portrait that hung above the mantelpiece in the drawing room. His grandfather is seen wearing a big turban and loose-fitting clothes in the portrait. His long, white beard covered the best part of his chest and he looked at least a hundred years old. Khushwant Singh also goes on to say that his grandfather did not look the sort of person who would have a wife or children. He looked as if he could only have lots and lots of grandchildren.
The grandfather's portrait is merely a physical one as Khushwant Singh had only seen his picture. But, his grandmother shared a special bond with him: he describes her with affection and love! He mentions how she looked after him, her kindness and charity. he mentions how she was missed even by the birds whom she fed daily.

Regards
