HOW IS SMALL POX DISEASE FATAL AS IT ONLY AFFECTS THE SKIN AND NO OTHER MAJOR ORGAN ? HOW DO OTHER SUCH VIRUSES WORK ?

Dear Student,

In some rare cases, variola major virus can transformed into haemorrhage and malignant forms. The haemorrhagic form causes destruction of the epidermis and mucous membranes. These membranes act as the first line of defense against pathogens. The malignant can result into excessive bleeding from skin and intestinal tract which may leads to collapsing of cardiovascular system, swelling of the liver, hypotension, etc. This forms are very fatal and will ultimately lead to the death of the person.
