How is MYANMAR different from the previous from the non democratic Government?

The following points may help you to know the difference:

a. The country has lived under the brutal military dictatorship. The military regime in Myanmar from 1962-2011, the regime that has crushed pro democracy movements and has arrested people, activist supporting democratic rule, it has indulged in massacre of innocent people.

b. Myanmar has witnessed worst form of ethnic violence, human rights violation, economic underdevelopment, corruption and poverty.
c. In the 1990 multi party election Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) had won a landslide victory in  but was not allowed to govern.

c. Today, Myanmar is on the threshold of democratic change. From April 2011, it has taken the first tentative steps on its journey towards democracy.
d. In 2010, the country had General elections, which military leaders referred as modest steps , though opposition severely criticized elections as rigged and characterized by malpractices and fraud. Aung San Suu Kyi was released after 2010 election.
e. Myanmar has installed  President Thein Sein - who served as a general and then prime minister under the junta in March 2011 as head of civilian government.
f. And now the country is gradually moving towards democracy, we can give example of  Aung San Suu Kyi who won parliamentary seat in by-elections in 2012 April.
g. Such steps in Myanmar have been welcomed worldwide.
h. Though the country continues to face ethnic tensions and conflict resulting in the displacement of thousands of people.
