The Gold Rush contributed to the American Industrial Revolution by acting as an economic multiplier.  It led to the creation of of new businesses, banks, and financial institutions. It spurred rapid agricultural expansion, quickened the volume of trade and commerce, and created demands for new forms of transportation. It boosted manufacturing and the services sector in a variety of areas like food, clothing and river steamboat transport.
