how does Hess's law follow 1st law of thermodynamics?

Hess's law is an expression of first law of thermodynamics - law of conversation of energy. According to the first law of thermodynamics energy of a system remains constant - neither created nor destroyed. Hess's law states that standard enthalpy of a reaction is the sum of the intermediate enthalpies, and is independent of the path taken for the reaction to proceed. Therefore, it is clear that Hess's law follows first law of thermodynamics.
