because the  british  rule  came  in  existance  in  india  . thats  why the  nawab  loose  their power.

for  example  =  rani  lakshmi  of jhansi wanted  the  company to  recognise  her  son  as  the  hero  of  the

kingdom  after  the  death  of  her  husband  .  nana saheb , the  adopted son  of  peshwa  baji  rao  ii  .

Since the mid eighteenth century, Indian Nawabs and Rajas began to lose their power to the British.

a) The British created a political dominance in India and claimed their paramountcy.

b) Residents were stationed in many courts. They began interfering and medaling in the ruling of the Nawabs and Rajas. The Residents tried to convince the Nawabs & Rajas to take decisions according to the convenience of the British.

c)  The British introduced many arbitrary policies like Subsidiary Alliance, Doctrine of Lapse to control the ruling of the Nawabs & Rajas.

d) If the Nawabs & Rajas failed to comply with these British policies, their territories would be annexed by the British.

e) This way, Many Nawabs & Rajas lost their territories. Some others became puppet rulers of the British.

Nawabs lost their power because as india was politically instable at that time, the nawabs fought between themselves to gain control over each other's kingdom. The British took advantage and supported a particular nawab and made him win and then took subsidary alliance with the British which gave the English immense power. So, slowly British gained full control over their kingdom and executed the nawab and thus the nawabs lost their power. British shared powers with nawabs such as Revenue, military , judiciary (all the profit making departments) and gained financial power. This also made Dual Govt. in Bengal.
