How did Kathak evolve as a dance form?

Kathak was a dance form associated with the northern parts of India. It is derivd from the word 'katha' which means story. Kathaks were originally a caste of story tellers with their gestures and songs. They embellished their performances in the northern temples. They modified their dance forms in the 15th -16th century with the spread of Bhakti movement. The present features are a result of their performances in the courts.
