HOLY THURSDAY
Is this a holy thing to see
In a rich and fruitful land,
Babes reduced to misery,
Fed with cold and usurious hand?
Is that trembling cry a song?
Can it be a song of joy?
And so many children poor?
?It is a land of poverty?
?And their sun does never shine,
And their fields are bleak and bare,
And their ways are filled with thorns :
It is eternal winter there.
?For where the sun does shine
And here?s the rain does fall,
Babe can never hunger there,
Nor poverty the mind appal.
On the basis of your reading of the poem, answer the following questions as briefly as possible.

c) The poet writes of the pathetic condition of children in order to attract the attention of other people, who could come to help them and rescue them from their miserable condition.
d) 'And their sun does never shine' by this the poet means that there is no joy or happiness in these children's lives.
