Here ans is 2 but according to ncert it is the procedure of ZIFT. In IVF embryo transfer takes. Also please tell at what stage of embryo does it get transfered in female in IVF and ZIFT

Dear student,
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the procedure that involves the collection of ova and sperms, fertilization outside the body in the laboratory, and embryo transfer (ET).

The embryo is transferred using one of the following methods-
  1. Zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT)- The zygote or early embryos (with up to 8 blastomeres) could then be transferred into the fallopian tube.
  2. Intrauterine transfer (IUT)- The embryos with more than eight blastomeres are transferred into the uterus.
Thus,
  • There is no need to transfer of unfertilized egg into the uterus or Fallopian tube. It will destroy the whole objective of IVF.
  • From the above description, it is clear zygote is not transferred into the uterus. Only the embryos with more than eight blastomeres are transferred into the uterus.
  • And the embryos with more than eight blastomeres are transferred into the uterus, not in the fallopian tube. So, the embryo with 16 blastomeres will be transferred into the uterus, not in the Fallopian tube in IVF.

  • However, the zygote can be transferred into the Fallopian tube, which is a part of the IVF. Therefore, the correct option is (2).
