1. Given below is a newspaper report on the state of cancer prevailing in India . You have been asked to deliver a speech on ‘Cancer-a silent killer’ on ‘The World Health Day’. Using information from the clipping given below together with ideas from the unit on ‘Health’ write the speech in not more than 150 words.

In India , cities are more cancer- prone than rural areas. In the early 1990’s, we expected one out of 10-15 urban Indians to get cancer in their life-time, that is, every second or third family would have to face this disease. This is partly due to high levels of benzene in the air and also that the metros are exposed to high levels of pesticides in their foods. In order to check the heavy growth of cancer in the country, the government shall to give priority to preventive action. At the same time measures to undertake improvement in facilities for the treatment of cancer shall have to be adopted.

These questions focus towards enhancing your writing and creative skills and thus, are strongly recommended to be answered on your own. You can begin like this:

Cancer is the disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. There are various types of cancer such as blood cancer, lung cancer, throat cancer, etc. It can be cured by medical treatments but mostly, it is incurable. Various ways in which we can spread awareness about cancer are through campaigns, pamphlets, posters, rallies, media, etc. (to be continued on your own discretion.)
