Give the characteristic tests for the gases co2,O2,h2,so2

Collect the gas libertaed and pass it through Lime Water. If the lime water turns milky then the collected gas is CO2

If the gas liberated is SO2, there will be a smell of burning matches and the gas will also put out a lit splint.

Light a wooden splint and then blow it off and bring it near the test tube. If the gas liberated is oxygen, the splint will relighten.

And if the collected gas is Hydrogen..it will burn with a 'POP' sound.

The chemical tests asked for the said gases are as follows:

a)Carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide gas, when bubbled through lime water will turn it milky. Lime water is a concentrated aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide - Ca(OH)2.

c)Hydrogen

We know that hydrogen gas burns with a popping sound. Take dilute sulphuric acid in a test tube and add some Zn granules to it. Now bring a burning match stick close to its mouth. It burns with a popping sound, confirming the presence of hydrogen gas.

d)Oxygen

We know that oxygen gas supports combustion. When a glowing matchstick is brought close to the mouth of a test tube evolving oxygen gas, it relights. This confirms the presence of oxygen gas.

4)SO2

It is brown in colour and has an unpleasant odour.

Moreover, when it is passed through water, an acid is formed which turns blue litmus to red.

Characteristics features of the gases are given below:a) Carbon dioxide (CO2)Lime water test- When CO2 is passed through lime water it turns milky due to formation of insoluble suspension of calcium carbonate.Ca(OH)2(aq) + CO2(g) →CaCO3(s) + H2O(l)b) Sulphur dioxide (SO2)Its odour is irritant to eyes and air passages. Its aqueous solution turns blue litmus to red.It turns acidified potassium dichromate solution from orange to greenK2Cr2O7 + 3SO2 + H2SO4 → Cr2(SO4)3 + K2SO4 + H2Oc) Hydrogen (H2)When hydrogen gas comes in the contact of burning matchstick then the gas burns with a pop sound.2H2 + O2 → 2H2Od) Oxygen (O2)The splint (long wooden strip) is lit, with the flame almost blown out. When it is exposed to high concentration of oxygen, the splint glows with a bright flame because oxygen supports burning. This is known as glowing splint test.

All the above answers are right :-)

for co2 - it turns lime water milky
for 02 - rekindles glowing splinter
for h2- give out pop-up sound when burner is brought towards it
for so2- rotten egg smell or smell of burning sulphur

CO2 :- when it is passed from lime water, lime water gets milky.
H2 :- when it placed near a burning candle , candle will burn with a pop sound and dazzling flame.
O2 :- when it placed near a glowing candle, candle will relight.
SO2 :- when is passed from water, an acid will form, which turn the blue litmus paper into red litmus paper.
