Maddie is a kind and empathetic girl, as she could make sense of what Wanda was feeling. She did not belong from a financially well-off family, as she wore Peggy's old clothes to school. Her best friend was Peggy, but she was still scared that she could be the next subject of mockery if she raised her voice against the dresses game. Moreover, she could relate well to Wanda's condition, as she had an almost identical situation. Maddie, as a person is more sensitive to people's feelings compared to Peggy, quite possibly because she wasn't as popular in school as Peggy was.
