Give an example to illustrate that indiscriminate use of pesticides may result in the degradation of the environment

Solution:

Pesticides can have a multifold effect on the environment. The pesticides sprayed in the air can cause air pollution. Some pesticides can remain in the soil for very long and adversely affect the environment. From the soil, these chemicals can erode and reach the water bodies thus contaminating water and affecting aquatic life. Pesticides may accumulate in the food chain and can result in biomagnification. Some pests also develop resistance to pesticides.
