 Features of some of the national parties are as following:

 BJP:


a. BJP's origin can be traced to Bhartiya Jana Sangh which was formed in 1951 by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
b. Founded in 1980, the party aims at building a strong nation based on its ideology of
 Hindutva.
c. Wants full territorial and political integration of Jammu
 and Kashmir with India.
d. Is in
 favour of uniform civil code and is against religious conversions.
e. Economic development, empowerment of minorities and women is one of its key policies
f. Its important leaders are
 Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh. Its symbol is lotus

Congress




a. It is oldest political party formed in 1885, played an important role during our freedom struggle. Founded by A.O Hume
b. The party aimed at building a secular democratic republic of India.
c. The party aims at working for the weaker section of society, minorities.
d. The party has a secular outlook.
e. INC believes in overall economic development and bridging regional disparities.
f. The party supports New Economic policies of
 liberalization and at the same time ensures protection to the weaker section.
g. With regard to foreign policy the party believes in mutual respect for territorial integrity and strongly endorsed the policy of
 NAM.

Communist party of India ( Marxist)

a. The party was founded in 1964  .
b. It believes in the ideology of socialism, secularism.
c. Is anti colonialism and promotes social and economic justice.,
d. Important leaders- Sitaram Yechury, Prakash karat. Symbol- hammer, sickle and star
e. They believe that revolution can come about through an alliance with workers and peasants

Communist party of India

a. Founded in 1925
b. It is pro soviet in its ideological inclination
c. It believes that revolution can come about through an alliance of progressive section of bourgeoisie and the working class
d. Important leaders are A.B. Bardhan, symbol ears of corn and
 sickel.

 party

a. It was formed in 1984 under the leadership of Kanshi Ram.
b. The party represent the interest of dalits, adivasis, OBCs and religious minorities.
c. Its progarmmes are based on the ideologies of Mahatma Phule, Periyar Ramaswami Naicker and Babasaheb Ambedkar.
d. It aims at abolishing discriminatory social order based on Brahminism.
e. Reduction of economic disparities, greater control  and access of economic resources by the lower caste is key on its agenda.

 Presently, Trinamool Congress has also been accorded the status of a National party by Election Commission.
