find the value of p so that the equation 3x2 - 5x = 2p = 0 has equal roots. also find the roots.

If the given quadratic equation is as:

 3x2 - 5x + 2p = 0 then the solution is given as:

Solution:

We have,

 3x2 - 5x + 2p = 0

Now, for a given quadratic equation to have  real and equal roots its D = 0.

⇒ b2 - 4ac = 0

⇒ (-5)2 - 4 × 3 × 2p = 0

⇒ 25 - 24p = 0

⇒ -24p = -25

⇒ p = 25/24

Now, px = 3x2-5x+2512Now, zeroes of px are given by :3x2-5x+2512 = 036x2-60x+25 = 06x2-26x5+52 = 06x-52 = 06x-5 = 0  and 6x-5 = 0x = 56 and x = 56

 3x^2-5x-2p=0 has equal roots.

D=b^2-4ac=0

25-4(3)(-2p)=0

25+24p=0

p=-25/24
