Find the value of k if the points A(k+1, 2k), B(3k, 2k+3) and C (5k – 1, 5k) are collinear.

Points A,B and C would be collinear if:

Slope of AB=Slope of BC i.e they lie on a same line

So we get:

  • 35

since points A, B and C are collinear, we have

slope of AB = slope of BC, i.e., (2k+3)-2k/3k-(k+1)  = 5k-(2k+3)/5k-1-3k

3/2k-1 = 3k-3/2k-1

3k = 6

k = 2 Ans.
