Explain the reasons as to why the Indian ruler revolted against the colonial government?

The reasons Indian rulers revolted against the colonial government were

1. The colonial British government had gradually acquired political control over India and weakened the position of Indian rulers.
2. They had already deposed many Indian rulers. By 1857, they were trying to depose existing rulers through such policies like the Doctrine of Lapse.
3. The British government also disrespected the Indian rulers. Indian rulers felt that the behaviour of the British towards them was not in accordance with their social status.
