- Why the image formed above the principal axis is virtual and erect only because the light rays seems/appears to be converging there and can't it be inverted.

When the object is above the principal axis and its image forms below the axis then the image is inverted .Again here you know that as the rays converges to a certain point so here the image will also be real .
Now when the formed above the principal axis and the object is also on the same side of the principal axis then the image is said to be the erected image but the image is said to be virtual when the rays appear to be converging there and it is then said as the virtual image .
