Explain the events taking place in the reaction centre of Photosystem II

Dear Student,

A photosystem is a complex structure made up of different protein molecules found in the thylakoid membranes of photosynthetic organisms such as plants, algae and cyanobacteria. Photosystem is involved in absorption of light energy and transfer of energy, electrons in the thylakoid membrane. There are two types of photosystems:- photosystem I and photosystem II. Photosystem I absorb light energy at 700nm and photosystem II at 680nm wavelength.

Photosystem II is located in the thylakoid. It captures the light to transmit two electrons to the next electron carrier. The lost electrons are replenished by splitting of water and oxygen is also released during this process at this reaction centre. So this reaction centre is the source of electrons to the whole photosynthesis.
